January 18, 20215 yr Popular Post As the finishing room comes along I continue to focus on having finishing supplies in it that I typically use. Brushes, trays and such I have taken care of with my supply cabinet build. Now I need a place, or places to store actual finish stuff. Started with 1qt containers. The window faces the back of my yard so no big deal blocking it off, no loss of direct sunlight. Because this once housed a hot tub I went with storm windows. I could install the correct windows and all, but that cost more than I want to invest at the moment. So I got some 2 inch thick insulation from my neighbor. That comes to R-6, half of the R-13 in the walls but not bad. I designed the cabinet to fit into the window and hang out about 2 inches. Set the back about 2 1/8 inches to account for the insulate board. This was tonight's dry fit. This is back of the unit that faces the window. Plan to seal it off with shrink plastic like they do boats with when all the finish work is done. Outside temp of the glass was 42F, this was inside the unit after 3 hours.

Got some moving blankets from HF today and a couple grommet kits. Plan to install some 3/4 metal conduit for rods. Simple and I have some in stock already.
January 18, 20215 yr Author Popular Post Checked this am at 0630. Outside glass temp was 31F, inside cabinet wall was 57F. Radiator heater was on low all night.
January 24, 20215 yr Author Popular Post Came up with this egg crate design. Gives me 70 holes for pray paint cans. Helper is putting on poly for me.
January 31, 20215 yr Author Popular Post 2 of 4 finished now. #3 is in various stages of assembly yet. Inside look: And outside look. I cut and then stapled some old sheet to the back. Not really anything more than decorative. The 2 inch insulation panel in the units themselves provide R7 ish insulation factor. Better than R1 with just window pane. These windows face the apartment complex behind me.

February 3, 20215 yr Author Popular Post Unit #3 completed and installed. Have to get few supplies to fill this up, and bring the rest of what I do have in stock out tomorrow. Inside view: Outside view.
February 3, 20215 yr Popular Post Just noticed in one of the early pics a rope trim around the molding . Looks good and where did the idea come from?

Originally I built this room to have my hot tub, so I went with the same nautical theme from the house. Had some rope out one day and thought what would this look like around the trim? So I tried a section. Liked it and added the rest. Bit of a pill but looks good, last a long time.
February 10, 20215 yr Author Popular Post Added some more storage for finishing supplies. My goal here was to get all of what I have out of the shop and into this climate controlled room. Took some 12 inch deep wire shelving and cut it down to 6 inches. Then made supports for the shelving to the 1x6 back and lower supports (yellow) on the bottom to make sure it stays put. My helper got some valuable experience applying polyurethane. Learned all about runs and going back to check your work as you go and so on. Did very well and hey it was Minwax so no big deal on how it ends up. As long as it is covered it was good enough for me. He had me laughing when we started bringing out all the paint and such. He was SURE we had PLENTY of extra space. Umm, no. As you can see we barely had enough for gallon cans and only 11 extra places for qt cans and I bought two qts of GF Arm R Coat today. Told him it lasted 11 minutes, not bad.
February 10, 20215 yr Popular Post Just like a store. Oils and stains on aisle 1, water based stains on aisle 2, oil based varnishes on aisle 3, wipes and finishing rags on aisle 4. Geeze, I have a headache already. LOL

LOL My neighbor often refers to my place as Mini Home Depot. Even threatened to put a sign up on the fence.
