This is more of those slabs I got all those years ago when on the left coast and did right the names of all the different kinds of woods on a piece of paper?. They were all growing in one of the redwood forest and were all cut down during the clear cutting exercise to make way for more little un's. I am finally starting to find uses for some of this wood. Not that important as to the name of this piece but I hate to tell every body who ask, I give them all I can remember right now, its unfinished wood!!!!! IMG_20210108_123343019.jpg.c59634b9858c603067914bbaaca51b0b.jpg

It seems like Madrone rings a bell in my little mind but I might be getting that name mixed up with folks in southern cal for they prefer this wood when smoking fish!

Looks kinda like redwood but is gonna be gorgeous either way. All I know about Madrone is turn wet and it changes shape considerably. Kinda looks like a dog jumping a stump.

I also think it might be redwood Burl

You guys might be right but I have 20 slabs hanging in my shop and two or three looks like this wood but all the rest , about 17 have the red hue and is more course grain like the big redwood slab I made the coffee table with. Also all the redwood pieces have a course grainy texture around the edges of all the redwood pieces and the one in this picture has a smooth type of edges? Also the growth rings are easily seen  in the redwood pieces???IMG_20210109_110501254.jpg.b9662485ccfc719756716f7b1b18008a.jpg

Now I'm starting to agree with you. These small slabs have been in my way for almost 50 years and finally I'm seeing things they might be used for.....
