December 21, 20205 yr Popular Post Have had these hollowed all summer and after I finished all the other gifts last week got these out to sand and finish. They are sweet gum and the sanding went rather rapidly. The dye is applied by wiping from center to edge and since there will be no crisp edge it can run over but you do want to leave a jagged edge and not try to make it even. Then repeat from the bottom. The collar is brown ebony and the finial Gabon ebony. Smaller one is about 8.5 in diameter and the larger right at 11.

December 21, 20205 yr Nicely turned Gerald. My favorite is the one with the fiery look of the one on the left. A real eye catcher.
