sandpaper backing vs. polishing

Featured Replies

When sanding resin in an epoxy resin table up to 3000+ grit with a DA/RO sander, would adhesive-backed sandpaper give a more flat/accurate polish vs. hook and loop paper due to the potential for unevenness in the velcro system?

Brad, NOT speaking from experience on your particular project, but... I don't think it would/should matter.  My thinking on this is that if you are polishing you ought not be pushing down on the sander, but let the sander do it's own thing.  Also, if you did push down on the sander it would be evenly distributed across the whole pad and last - if you were pushing down at an angle, say the front edge, you would likely do that same technique with the same results whichever sander you were using.

That's my thoughts on it, hopefully someone with experience can chime in.

As Cal ststed, it shouldn't matter. After 6000-8000 a good hand applied oil/pumice should make it really shine.
