November 5, 20205 yr Popular Post So I've started again... The first bowl is a plain bowl how ever I wouldn't mind giving a go at putting some designs into the walls of the bowl. I'm not exactly sure how possible that would be with sanding and going thin on the walls on the hollowing. I've got two more myrtle blanks to turn through this is only the first one. But I'm just curious as if it would be to just keep it simple. I'm not good at doing highly detailed stuff as of yet.
November 5, 20205 yr Nice! Got an email today from Cook Woods and I see they have bowl blanks on sale.
November 5, 20205 yr Author Thanks yea usually cook woods has some sales going on usually. They've also started a rewards points system too so how ever much you buy from them it adds up in points and potential discounts.
November 5, 20205 yr Author Well needless to say I'm pretty P Oed.... Since I do not have resin and or a pressure pot to solve this problem this piece is a toss in the recycle.... Guess I'll have to order a new blank.
November 7, 20205 yr Popular Post Send it to me! That’s an excellent opportunity to create a beautiful piece showcasing mother nature’s handiwork!
November 11, 20205 yr Author So far with the myrtle wood projects COOK WOODS is sending me a replacement blank to work with thankfully. Sorry @@lew the rotten piece wound up almost blowing apart on me so it went out... Unfortunately it was unsavable. As far as what I'm currently working on the second bowl its going well. I did recieve a new toy today... an angled drill with sanding discs and sanding attachment. I gave it a try out today sanding down the bowl and well I'm pleasantly pleased with the results. I mean it was hit and miss with some tool marks but its never probably going to be absolutely perfect with me. I used the drill up to 240 grit and it worked great. How ever the drill seems to want to heat up quite a bit not sure what the deal with that is unless that's a normal thing. It is a 3 inch disc so I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to work it out into the inside of the bowl maybe just do the walls with the sander and hand sand the bottom? I dunno yet. How ever I'm so far satisfied with it. Progress on the bowl is its shaped and sanded. I did use the drill up to 240 grit and then hand sanded it up to 600.
November 12, 20205 yr I would retrieve the tossed bowl blank and try to salvage pen blanks from it. You may have plenty of pieces for kits.
November 14, 20205 yr Thanks for posting Andrew. I ordered some from Cooks last night. Beautiful wood. Great looking bowl.
