Isn't the waterfowl lead ban a Federal rule? I'm not a duck hunter, but I had always thought it was. A few years back I got permission from the state to kill some nuisance Canadian geese that were raising a family on our pond. (Trust me, you NEVER want a family of geese in your yard). Anyway, to do this, I had to have an Ohio hunting license and use steel shot. I was also not allowed to eat them (like that was going to be a problem). They had to be buried or donated to a charity (?).

The lead shot was banned due to lead contamination showing up in the systems of fish, waterfowl, and other aquatic wildlife.

Seems they would eat the lead shot along with whatever else they ate, so it was banned to keep us from eating lead contaminated food.

Gee Whiz. Of all the quail, deer, elk, rabbits, and, squirrels I've shot with lead ammo, I should be full of lead contamination. Maybe it was my dad's admonishments to "Get the lead out" that saved me. Tho, he wasn't talking about cleaning game!

Makes me wonder how we ever survived as a human race before "regulations".

 

I believe California is the only state with a statewide ban on all lead ammo hunting, period.

Probably, Fred, but I'm only familiar with the Ontario regulations. Migratory birds ARE the responsibility of the feds, so that would make sense!

I remembered the alert coming up on this but have been busy...finally had time to read it in detail. Thank you for the review and will put a set of these on my for sure get list
