Popular Post AndrewB Posted October 27, 2020 Popular Post Report Posted October 27, 2020 So far I've got a couple of maple blanks in the works to turn out. Not sure why but I love a sharp bandsaw blade. I was able to cut out a round blank from square with out any breaks except for the entry point for the saw blade it self. That was pretty sweet. Either way this is 1 of 2 maple bowls that is in the works this one is at least off to a good start. How ever I've got a slight hole in the wall side of this bowl but I will resolve that just but cutting the top and rim down to just below the hole that I could not sand out with the disc sander. Either way off to a good start. As far as a heater I am currently looking at the Mr Heater buddy heater its small and can run off a 1 pound tank so that will be decent. lew, p_toad, Steve Krumanaker and 2 others 5 Quote
AndrewB Posted October 28, 2020 Author Report Posted October 28, 2020 A bit of sanding on the inside and the rim and I think this one will be ready for some finish.... Cal and p_toad 2 Quote
AndrewB Posted October 29, 2020 Author Report Posted October 29, 2020 So far I'm only up to 60 grit on the inside of the bowl. Its taking quite a bit to hand sand down all of the tool marks on the inside of the bowl itself. I also got the second blank cut out on the band saw and ready to go so its moving along quite well with these too along with stopping to edit video and download which takes time.... Cal Posted October 31, 2020 Report Posted October 31, 2020 Andrew, I am not a turner and I have never turned a bowl, so l don't know the answer - but why does the inside of the bowl turn with so much coarseness left compared to the outside? Is that normal, or just tooling/technique that will improve with more experience? Quote
AndrewB Posted November 3, 2020 Author Report Posted November 3, 2020 The second of the two maple bowls did it this evening its starting to turn out nicely. It is sanded on the outside to 600 grit. p_toad and Cal 2 Quote
AndrewB Posted November 3, 2020 Author Report Posted November 3, 2020 A great way to get away from todays DISTRACTIONS ESPECIALLY TODAY. The second bowl is hollowed out. Its taking quite a bit more sanding than I had anticipated on the 60 grit trying to get rid of a lot of the tool marks. But making a lot of progress I'm hoping to get this one at least the bowl form finished with sanding and stained today. I also have 3 Mrytle wood blanks coming into day and I have 2 more walnut claro blanks on order. p_toad and Larry Buskirk 2 Quote
