September 24, 20205 yr Popular Post I built two of these for a friend and just finished them today. They're about 10" x 13" x 2" and made of Walnut, finished in Nitrocellulose lacquer. The frame holds an 8x10 photo. David

September 24, 20205 yr Very INTERESTING. Am I correct that the hinge does not show? I have seen this type thing that pulls down to reveal the box but I think that type has to be screwed to the wall. Which brings up the question of how to mount this as I would not want the frame to fall when I grab the firearm?
September 24, 20205 yr Author At a normal picture hanging height you'd be hard pressed to see the hinge barrel, Gerald. I'd say less than half of it sticks out the top, couldn't avoid it and still have the picture frame open to a full 90°. For mounting you can see the two countersunk holes on the cross member where the magnets are located and they'll screw it directly to the wall, preferably hitting one stud. Whatever weapon is stuck to those magnets is going to require a pretty good pull to break loose so the mounting needs to be firm. David
September 24, 20205 yr Real Nice David! Mind if I ask where you are finding Nitrocellulose Lacquer? Haven't been able to find around here for a long time.
September 24, 20205 yr Author Thanks, Larry! There are a dozen stores that have lacquer here. I just go to our local paint store and get thinner, sealer, and lacquer. I can drive into Shreveport, something I avoid whenever possible, but it's still only a 20 minute drive to get a higher grade of Sherwin Williams or Mohawk lacquer. There are a couple of automotive paint suppliers here where I can get acrylic or catalyzed finishes, as well. David
