September 21, 20205 yr Popular Post I had one piece of spalted maple left. After cutting and glue up with some scrap (red hart, I think) I attempted turning. The results were very disheartening. The rot was too extensive and I kept getting bad results. Over the course of 2 days, I reglued, returned & refinished several times. This morning I decided to go with them as they are. Any more would be too much. The finish is what it is and my critic likes them. She is happy.....I am happy.
September 21, 20205 yr Dang those look good. Ornaments is one thing on the trial list. Hopefully soon. Theyd make great christmas gifts.
September 22, 20205 yr Popular Post Love the complementary look! I use thin CA to help stabilize punky wood. It works but can be expensive for larger items. Recently I saw a video where a turner mixed up acrylic resin and then thinned it with acetone and used for stabilization without a pressure pot- https://youtu.be/whdYdkZXzWI
September 22, 20205 yr Author I didn't use CA, maybe next time. I am now out of salted wood, but I may use some in the colorful sawdust as a filler to see what I can do.
September 26, 20205 yr Ron, you always amaze me. I am not going to try to keep up, it would be futile. :-)

Since isolation I have been getting some from Amazon, same stuff, costs far less, but instead of a 6, you get many more. Next day delivery too. The hooks that hold the ornament on the tree are hooks that goes thru a lady's ear.
