You''l likely laugh at this, shows how desperate I am to use some of my tools. Anyway, short back story: my years in the Boy Scouts were some of the most memorable in my youth (in a great way), and one of the things I wanted but never got was an official scout hand axe. A few years back Newman posted a pic of one he had in his possession, even better it was made by Plumb and had the official logo engraved on it. I told him if it was mine i would fame it and hang it on the wall (the promise). Not long after that he was at my house for our gathering  and he brought the hatchet with him and it managed to stay behind.. So it's been sitting waiting patiently for me to do something and  finally did. I made this plaque to hold it, and it's a scroll saw subject since it was the first time I had tried this. I cut out the shape of the hatchet with the saw table tilted 5º. Once the piece was cut out, it fit inside the opening, but sunk back about 3/8" inch. To keep the hatchet in place, I put in a small wood block at the end of the handle (to keep it in position) and a large magnet to hold it. That also allows me to pull it out for the upcoming zombie apocalypse. I still have to clean it u a little before applying the finish (probably some Arm R Seal). I always wanted to try that tilted cut technique but never had a project that needed, this was my chance. Obviously I'm not a talented scroller, but it's good enough for the purpose. Oh, I put a leg on the back of the plaque to sit it on a shelf. Hanging it on a wall seemed like it might cost someone a toe. I love the well-used look of the hatchet, it deserves some time off (until the apocalypse).

You know it funny, but the plaque without the axe looks a bit amateurish, but WITH the axe it becomes "rustic" and looks appropriate.
