August 26, 20205 yr Popular Post comment_240388 Well I have been slowly putting together, yet another shop. As always, I have to share the garage with other stuff like bikes, the gym, and random crap. However, I have been able to build anything and everything I have wanted, or that my wife has wanted. I am in the process of upgrading some equipment to include a larger bandsaw, an oscillating spindle sander, and I recently just upgraded my lathe. I also have a few pieces of equipment that I need to acquire, like a jointer, planer, and a router table of some kind. I can't believe I have went this long with those tools. Other than that, I can pretty much build anything I want, which has been super nice. If I could just keep it cool in there. This central Florida heat is a killer. Report
August 26, 20205 yr comment_240403 A shop as always evolves over time as you have no doubt learned having moved a few times. Couple of suggestions. Put a fan in the circled area. Like this. For reference mine is a 12 inch, larger of course moves more air. For a router table you can have as a add on to TS, or build a small one. I have both, the smaller one is used for roundovers and small work. Hides away as a drawer in a cabinet. Report

On the opposite side of the lathe, I have a 14” fan similar to the one you suggested. I also have another one on the other side of the garage and they both oscillate. Additionally, I have a large box fan for the gym area that I also use when I’m working in the shop and my small fan on the bench. What I really want is a split system, but the HOA won’t allow that. I really want to add the router to my table saw, just haven’t taken the time to figure out how yet. I like your drawer idea though. Report

The problem is all mine. Horizontal work surface = collection place for stuff. 7 minutes ago, PatriotWoodturning said: I really want to add the router to my table saw, just haven’t taken the time to figure out how yet This can quickly turn into a very expensive proposition. I have an inexpensive system by Router Razier I have used for 20+ years and it works okay. But In building my cabinet router I used a lab lift. Gave me some real insight into going a different path. Much less expensive. Still working on the kinks, as in only so much room to stuff alot of things to make this work. Might get to it this winter. Maybe... Report

I like your drawer idea though. Mine looks like this- I used an old Sears router table, made a wooden frame and then had an angle iron support made to fit the wooden frame. Bolted the angle iron to the table saw wing mounts and added the supports. Not in this picture but I made the router lift from the Shop Notes magazine Report

I just need to make my fence rails longer so they help support the router table, or make the supports like you did. Report
August 27, 20205 yr comment_240422 I didn't connect the my table to the fence rails. 2 bolts connecting the angle iron to the saw table and the diagonal supports. It is quite stable. Report
August 28, 20205 yr comment_240586 Looks way too clean. After I've vacuumed up the shop, it lasts until a few seconds after I pick up the next tool. Report
