August 26, 20205 yr Popular Post Hello, my name is Doug and I currently live in Central Florida. I have had a love for woodworking since I was 10 years old. While most kids watched Saturday morning cartoons, I watched Norm Abrams build Shaker furniture, or Tom Silva show off his carpentry skills. I also spent many days in my grandpa's wood shop watching and learning. In my late teens and most of my 20's, I worked at a sawmill in Southern Indiana as a logger and equipment operator. During that time, I also joined the Air National Guard in the Civil Engineering Squadron. There I learned a lot about carpentry, electrical, plumbing, heavy equipment, etc. In 2008, I met my wife while deployed in support of OIF. That same year we also PCSed to Alaska. I ended up leaving the military in 2009, and worked at a small sawmill near Anchorage. In 2011, we PCSed to the Florida Panhandle, where I ended up working as an Operations Manager at a landscape company. Several years later, my wife decided to leave the military, and in 2016 we moved to our current location near Tampa. During all that time, I had some sort of small wood shop. It was typically half of a 2-car garage and my lathe was always at the center of it all. While I have built some furniture, recently, I still prefer to turn on the lathe. Well that is my long-winded introduction, all to say, that I love woodworking.
