They have arrived....

Today, the big brown truck stopped in front of the house.  Not unusual as they often park here to deliver across the street or one of the houses next door.  After waiting for several minutes, I figured it was a delivery for next door.  Suddenly, a knock on the door and a packaged dropped to the porch floor.  I opened the door and a very long box was lying on the porch floor.  I thanked Mr. Brown and retrieved the box.  Examining it, I read the label that the package had been shipped by EWT.  Holy moly.  I had to sit down.  Ann could not wait as she chattered like an excited child.  To get her to shut up, I retrieved the pocket knife and sliced open the box.  There they were, all 3 of them.  What beauty to behold.

After her inspection and my admiration, I took them to the garage and onto the Shopsmith.  First order of business is to put a good coat on the gouges including handles, shafts and screws.

It is here that I learn that not all the screw heads are the same.  Included in each sleeve is a sheet of paper describing the cutter and holding the correct and applicable wrench.  They are different sizes, but the red and orange use the same size allen wrench.  So, each gouge got a complete coat of wax.

Here you see the excessive amount of wax applied to the cutter and screw.  I placed a small amount of wax on top so that there is some between the cutter and shaft, the whole screw has wax including the cavity where the screw was reseated.  In the last picture you can see the excess amount covering the bottom of the screw hole.

I can hardly wait to try these.  Reading the directions, this is a learning curve.  I hope I am up to this.  I am sure that there will be catches and these are long enough to be a good catapult.  :-)  I love that these are Made IN America.  These are professional quality tools.  I never thought that I would own a set.  I am humbled and overwhelmed.  I have a mix of emotions as not worthy but absolutely grateful.  I wish to thank all the folks here who made this possible for me.  When I get a chance to start turning again, I will be showing pictures.  Again, thank everyone for giving me a close up and personal chance to learn these beautiful and wonderful tools.

I missed this post too, it was in the Free For All! I moved it to the Turning Forum. Congrats Steven! They are a thing of beauty aren't they? I saw you using them on the Shopsmith, but I had not put two and two together, and realized that you had gotten your award before, these tools are easy to use, very easy. 90 degrees on the rest, rest the bottom of the tool tip on top of the spinning wood, and ease down till the cutter catches, till you get the feel of where it's supposed to be. And watch videos here at this page.
