August 3, 20205 yr Popular Post My CNC is shorting out... At least the pattern disappeared. I'm just getting warmed up. Many steps in this thing and with the pattern off, there is no rush and it might get pushed back a few.
August 3, 20205 yr That's totally amazing. Please don't put off finishing it for too long. It's gonna be fantastic!
August 3, 20205 yr Author Popular Post Gene I'm in the hardest part next and that is where two pieces touching each other should be about the same height to look right. Even though I have more or less lowered or raised all the pieces but now they have to be mated so to speak with all its neighbors. Like the large piece next to the bottom left corner with lots of grooving there but I forgot to realize the bottom is straight up and down and the whole bottom will have to be tapered and redone to look like it goes with the picture....also some of the very small pieces have been misplaced and making new pieces to fill in the gaps is down right impossible... Mowing right now. Wife started with the zero turn and is a learning and a while there in the shop I thought we were getting some loud thunder and looked out and there she was trying to move the building over with the mower....My shop was always in the front yard and now it seems to be around to the side of the house. I just wonder how she got that big thing in there? And while I was on the mower I was still thinking how I will change some of the things and forgot where I was and now I'm in the lake!!!
August 4, 20205 yr Author Gene compare this picture with the last one I posted. A few changes to some of the pieces. And this is the three bits I used with the DremelThe green bit made all the grooves. They all looked like the one very grainey groove then I use the top round diamond bit and it smoothes the wood...No sand paper used... You have to cut the speed down to almost nothing.
August 5, 20205 yr Author I haven't started adding colors yet.. Those you see is the original picture I am using...
August 6, 20205 yr Beautiful work and well done! Your post reminded me of a project that I have in the list of things to carve. This was photographed, somewhere in France, while I was on a self-drive there. I'm thinking that in might be in Rouen.
August 6, 20205 yr Author Thats a great picture Frederick. And being in concrete is more amazing they got such detail for when I mess with concrete it sure chips out where it ruins every thing around it...any idea as how old that might be?

I'm pretty certain that this was carved from a limestone slab, sometime in the 17-18 century. I'll try to track down the photo, compare the date with where I was(location) exactly, and then do some sleuthing to find out exactly where this was in the city.
August 7, 20205 yr Author Gene, I did find some color.. I also checked out the coral and it can and is any and all colors.
August 7, 20205 yr Author I forgot to mention,,, when walking along the shore in water it would be advisable to wear shoes for anything with color on it could be deadly.

August 7, 20205 yr Jeese, I think this carving is one of my favorites. The color makes the shells very life like (I know that the shells are not alive). Thanks for sharing. Danl
