COVID19 Safety risk

Featured Replies

This is a case of finding out that a person who works for the VA is in a front line position assisting with transportation in an enclosed vehicle and does not believe that COVID19 is real, that it is a "hoax".

Once I learned of this from the driver himself, I asked if he was joking he replied he was not. I shared with him that my cousin died from COVID19 and his response was "I guess its good we live in America where everyone can have an opinion."

Not only was his lack of empathy concerning and enraging but the level if ignorance was astounding.

This knowledge means that he does not take his life outside of the VA seriously enough to keep himself and others around him safe. It is also safe to assume that the company he keeps outside of work are also high infection risk cases.

I contacted my VA rep and the out come of that conversation was that the law binds their hands to take any action to improve the safety and security of its employees and Veterans if the face of ignorant employees. This obvious security risk to the safety and well being of not only vets but coworkers and their families. I am reaching out to our community because there are most certainly more individuals working among the VA that also do not have safe home practices. I am seeking for these individuals either be relocated to less front line position or if no other recourse can be enacted...I pause to say it, they be removed from our offices to ensure maximum security to the lives of people who are taking this pandemic seriously.

I do not wish to get people fired in this time, but unless individuals can be educated to see the ignorance of their stance, that ignorance is what will keep COVID19 alive even after a vaccine. They are the same people who probably think flu shots are bad for you too. I need help keeping my fellow veterans and VA staff safe. Any legal help or direction will be welcome. I come to my VA brothers and Sisters for help before I go Public.

Help me help keep the people in my area and all over America safe from the slow death of ignorance.

Respectfully,

David
