July 7, 20206 yr Popular Post Just finished cleaning up my new aquisition chas Parker vise. Thought I was gonna need rust remover but the depot and 2 hardware stores had absolutely no evaporust, or anything else besides navel jelly. So I bought PB blaster and settled on good old elbow grease, plumbers cloth, wire brush on a drill, wire toothbrush and my screwdriver and a couple of towels. Put it in the bathtub and sprayed it down then started scrubbing. Came out ok after taking it completely apart and reassembling it. 2 new faceplates ( probably clear pine) and I can start figuring how to attach it to the bench.
July 7, 20206 yr Great job for sure, and you were serious about the bathtub!!! Did you do this on your knees?
July 7, 20206 yr I know you have already done the job, but Harbor Freight carries Evapo-Rust, and according to the map I looked at, it seems they have a store a short ways south of you. I don't know if all stores carry it, so a phone call might be in order. Just info for next time.
July 8, 20206 yr looks nice. reminds me to the two (similar) i got 35+ years ago and had in the trunk of my car. younger (and dumber) me though i could just lean over and lift those babies out of there. Ha ha - NO. My back popped and my wife (standing next to me) says "what was that?" Yeah, two bad discs for a few years now.

July 10, 20206 yr Looks good Mike! Should try electrolysis, a lot less work. And cheap to boot. A box of washing soda is about $3.00. Of course you would have to repaint, because it will strip everything to bare metal. But it's kind of nice working with like new bare castings. Edited July 10, 20206 yr by Larry Buskirk
