Spalted wood Ornament

After getting my shop back to near normal, I found a small piece of spalted maple. I was going to turn it down, but I could see it was not strong enough to take it. So I made a design, drilled it with 2 sizes Forstner drills, cut out the center and shape on my bansaw. I had to hand sand all surfaces because it was not real solid anywhere. Some of it was so soft I didn't think it would hold up. It looked OK so I sprayed it and added a silver bell in the center with a chain an bling.A5DB5BC7-A693-4540-B709-816C5F7C6EE7_1_201_a.jpeg.47b10688897e379bb7fda0b27bcdef0e.jpeg

+1 to all the positive comments.  Thank you for telling us how you did it.  Right now, I won't be copying as I have so many other projects to keep me going at the moment.

Projects are what makes life interesting and keeps ole guys like me sane.

Ron, I totally agree.  It keeps the body and mind working, saves money and keeps us out of the house and away from the rest of the world.  What more can be asked for?  A donut!  I am loving my time with my woodpile and turning pens, making boxes and tables.  I hope to get back to ornaments soon.  First I have 23 rolling pins to make for our church school for a fund raiser.  The tree grew in front of the church for 30+ years, so I told them not to burn it.  They don't know why I wanted the wood, but they will see.  Now, also have some scraps for make a couple of pens for the top sellers, an ornament for each teacher and such.  It's going to be exciting to see their reactions and not know who did it.  I don't want any recognition, so that is going to make it more fun.  Anyway, this time is great as I don't have many interruptions.  Well, she'll change it when she can.  :throbbinghead:
