Saving Uncle Sam

I made this Americana Uncle Sam more than 30 years ago. I take him in the fall, so that the snow/ice don't ruin him. Yesterday we had winds above 70 mph and down he went.Glue joints broke and some of the wood had dry rot. "To save Sam or not" was the question".

I don't know of any glue that will hold dry rot then I looked way back in my cabinet and found some Gorilla glue all purpose. It looks and acts just like Goop. So here he is, all gooped, screwed and clamped up. I doubt he can take another fall, so this time I'll hold him down better. I may wait till winter to repaint him.......if he lasts that long.

In 2020 Ron, I had to wonder which Uncle Sam you were referring to:(

Seriously though, good save!

Sam is pretty solid now. I found that a lot of him was a bit rotten, but I stabilized him with some glue and very long screws. His base was warped and  he wobbled. However the winds of 70 mph+ would have blown him over anyway. I'll paint him another day. In the mean time he is guarding our door
