June 4, 20206 yr Popular Post Built the gate to my backyard few years back. Works well but my bungee cords idea to have the gate stay put when open has not worked well. They just do not hold up to the elements. If I leave it just sitting there open the slightest wind blows the thing shut. So I used one of these magnets my neighbor gave me and made a base to hold it. Once you push the gate all the way open the magnet grabs the latch and holds tight. You have to give a decent tug to get it loose. Much better. Next up is the same idea for the shop door. I want them open and to stay open even with wind and the cats playing with them. Now that proof of concept is all done and testing came out good I will take it back down and do some painting. Be a few days.
June 4, 20206 yr Popular Post Perfect! I prop the door open with a 3/4"X1" stick cut to fit under the door knob just right.

June 7, 20206 yr Author Popular Post Completed project: Both latches painted and installed. Gust of wind this afternoon did not budge either one. I am pleased with the results. My only hiccup was having to remove the siding and install a backer piece that filled gap behind siding so I could flush mount my piece where it needed to go. Sorry didn't bother with a picture on that one, was about to rain so I moved quickly.

The magnet on the horizontal piece looks to be close to the ceiling, but the vertical piece looks to be more centered on the door?

The 1st picture is gate latch. It grabs the gate lock which is in middle of gate. 2nd picture is of Shop Door latch. It grabs a washer at the top of the door. I will make more pictures and post. Kinda hard to take picture of latch with door closed.
