May 29, 20205 yr Popular Post A good article on color matching. As I say. it's more like sailing a boat than shooting a rifle. Steps at a time and adjustment along the way. My most common color shifts I use glazes for pieces I'm (re)finishing and toners for touch up. The Universal Tinting Colors (UTCs) are the things in the carousel at the paint mixing station in a paint store. A 12 oz. bottle runs about $8 and will last you (and 30 of your friends) the rest of your life. You might be able to talk the paint store guy into giving you a few squirts into your container for free or for a small charge if you want to try this. When I was in a week long finishing class, one of my fellow students had done a table and it was very orange. The instructor mixed up some blue (yes, blue) glaze, wiped it on and immediately, it went to a nice warm brown. See my post on primary and secondary colors to know what neutralizes what. And the "Finisher's Color Wheel" will give you some idea of mixing and the earth colors often used in finishes. BTW, I save all these PopWood articles as PDF files so in the event they ever go away, I still have them. verbum sapienti sat est https://www.popularwoodworking.com/flexner-on-finishing-woodworking-blogs/matching-colors/?utm_content=130437057&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&hss_channel=tw-27657236# Edited May 29, 20205 yr by kmealy
