entertainment center

Featured Replies

I've built 3 entertainment centers in the past. Now my daughter would like something smaller for her bedroom. I'm looking for some ideas for something 42" - 48" long, probably 32" - 36" high and 16" - 18" deep. Her bedroom furniture is pine. Anyone have plans for something in that general size. I can modify if needed.

Take a chest plan and cut the top off

Any interest in a built-in option?

She said she would like a narrow shelf to hold the cable box and blue tooth disc player, and storage below for the CD's etc. The newer electronic units are much thinner than what they were when I built her existing center years ago. She apparently would like to have doors to close off the storage areas. That's about it I guess. I suggested a taller  unit than the existing one, but she said she doesn't want it any taller than the 32" high unit she now has. Built in isn't an option for her. That would make things a bit simpler. I think photo's would be helpful to me for design ideas. Don't really need plans. Thanks everyone for your input.

Never made one.  Don't have a tv or cable.  What I do have is a entertainment center made of teak that was for a 80s style audio system.  It's nice got it for $250 about 20 years ago.

My buddy just bought one will take a picture if his.

Thanks gunny. Teak would be way out of my price range, but the wood selection isn't my problem.Looking mainly for a design that she would like. Wow, how do you live in the modern world without a TV? Radio isn't what it used to be.

Don't listen to that either. :D

I spent 3 years in Iraq. Used my time to draw plans up for things I wanted to make or do to the house. Have several 3 inch binders full of all if them. Plenty to do.

Oh and the Ukrainian Princess keeps me fed, clothes washed, house clean and other activities once the day is done in the shop :o

I have no complaints.

For mine I made a book shelf.  TV sits on top, 6" shelf to hold the cable box etc and two nice shelves below that for books and etc.  I always use the "make it simple" but I prefer to leave off the "stupid" part.

If you ever want to do a built in, Amzn offers a 2 pack of this neat cover plate for a standard electrical box.  I put one end near the cable/wifi/dvd player, and the other behind the wall mount tv.  It has cat5, hdmi and coax.   Run a buried length of each cable, close it up, and you're ready to go.  At least until the newest video technology comes out.
