April 25, 20206 yr Popular Post Severely reduces the surface area of the filter and won't last very long between changes. The guy in the video would be amazed if he invested in a Dust Deputy. He would throw away his paper towels in a hot minute. His filter would never look like that as long as he changed the Dust Deputy bucket before it got too full.
April 25, 20206 yr I have an even better way.....I bought 2 of the biggest roll around vacuums in 1984 when we open the mini golf...I left one with the people who bought me out in 1999 and brought one vac to the lake as I retired.. This vac I'm still using every day I'm in the shop. Its a screaming mimi but hey I'm still using the same filter.....All it takes to keep using the same filter is take the filter out and go outside and blow it out with the air compressor. I also bought 2 new filters in 1984 just in case a hole blew in one or the other filter......The hose got to close to the heater and almost melted it but its not leaking so still useable...I guess you could say some things Sears had their names on was very good.. No Sears never built anything they sold I am aware of but this big vac is still in my ears all the time...It is the wet or dry type and to use wet one has to take the filter out or else they will ruin the filter so this might be the only thing I remembered to do each and every time I did the wet thingy... An air compressor has shot this guys video all to hell... That is the hose there of the right and the melted side is on the other side you can't see... I sure have to watch it for when I'm missing a small piece I have to open up the vac and there it is. If you don't have an air compressor, buy one for it will come in handy in lots of ways/
April 25, 20206 yr I've got a couple of those Sears screaming Mimis. One was given to me by a guy who was moving. It's the old black one. They both take the same filters. I've never had to buy a new filter for either one. When they needed cleaning, I used to blow them off with the hose in the other port. Now, I just beat them against the inside of the burn barrel. I don't know how you can stand their noise for as long as you do your carvings, Jesse. I've thought of using a box of some sort to muffle mine but, I'm afraid the motor would over heat.
April 25, 20206 yr Popular Post Gene I wouldn't think of using it without my ear muffs.. Don't know what brand the muffs are but I can just barely here it running... I do treat my filter a little better than beating it on something. I thought the filter I use cost about thirty something bucks so I do treat it with respect.....I just now checked the ear muffs brand, Moldex. The burnt hose was a few years ago, still don't leak air. 16 gallon vac and I could have bought them in 1983 for we opened early 1984...I also have a few Sears electric motors that are still running without ever needing any attention.
April 25, 20206 yr I just now noticed that box fan with the filter attached to the intake side and I rigged this up in about 99 when I bought the new Dewalt 788 scroll saw...I also take it outside and blow air from the other side and the filter gets as clean as a new one looks...And I keep saving the house filters for a few years now and almost ran out of anywhere to put them. I have three of those cheap 20 dollar box fans sitting around in different places with the filters attached...
April 25, 20206 yr Popular Post A long time ago, I read an article about using panty hose to cover the filter. It does catch the larger particles but it's not perfect.

Perhaps but I am not going to be the guy that gets beaten for asking for them, or worse taking without asking.
April 26, 20206 yr If they've already caught those larger particles, I ain't putting them on my filters.
April 26, 20206 yr Popular Post I've never needed replacement filters for either shop vac or hand vac. Tap gently to remove the bulk of the dust, then blow across the surface of the filter (don't get too close if you're using compressed air). About every 3rd time you clean them, run water across them until the water runs clear (the filter media will trap fines in the fabric that even compressed air won't remove, but water will float it out). Same trick would work on the HEPA filters for your house vacuum. I avoid that by never vacuuming. Leaf blower (a la Tim) once a quarter.

We are standing at attention while the DI goes through all of our belongings that we brought with us. One of the recruits had a pair of pantyhose in his suitcase. The DI holds them up. The recruit is noticeably red faced. “ I can explain those “ he says. The DI Says “ I hope so “. The recruit goes on “ My brother was in the service and told me that NOTHING puts a shine on the boots like pantyhose. I swear that’s the only reason I have them “ The DI smiles and says “ That may be true, but you can’t use them here “. This is a 100% true tale, as Gunny has on his posts, Live to tell the tales, they sound better that way.

April 26, 20206 yr Popular Post He smiled, it was hard not to Same search through the belongings and one recruit had 7 knives in his suitcase. DI’s statement was “Good GOD almighty, don’t you feel safe here!”

I had a snowflake in Iraq that stepped out of line once and insulted my beloved Marine Corp. After that if I came into an area he disappeared into thin air. Normally I don't care but sometimes you just have to put the fear of God into people.
