HandyDan Posted March 12, 2020 Report Posted March 12, 2020 Everything is being cancelled. My bets are that will too. Ohio says 100 or less or cancel it. That could close big restaurants in addition to churches. Schools are on spring break for three weeks. lew 1 Quote
Ron Dudelston Posted March 12, 2020 Report Posted March 12, 2020 I just read that a Columbus Woodworking Show was cancelled lew and Gunny 1 1 Quote
Al B Posted March 12, 2020 Report Posted March 12, 2020 Lots of closings everywhere. Some people are overreacting by purchasing way more than the needed home supplies. Taking 'reasonable' precautions by everyone should help stem the spread. Worrying about it accomplishes only negative results. lew and Gunny 2 Quote

John Morris Posted March 12, 2020 Report Posted March 12, 2020 30,000,000 Americans caught the flu this season, and 20,000 have died from the common flu, where is the panic for this? Preliminary In-Season 2019-2020 Flu Burden Estimates WWW.CDC.GOV CDC's weekly cumulative in-season estimates of flu cases, medical visits, hospitalizations and deaths in the United States. I think if the final ratio of cases and deaths of the Coronavirus patients is this or smaller, a lot of people will be happy. If 30,000,000 Americans get the Coronavirus, at least 40,000 will die. (Going by the ratio’s in China and Italy). I believe it is also possible that it damages organs, and that is permanent. If you get the flu, and survive, there is almost no permanent damage. If there was a vaccination available, I would get it. Get my flu shot every year, haven’t had the flu in 7 years (sound of me knocking on wood). This is what works for us, I believe everyone should do what works for them. Some fairly smart people have made some decisions in the last two days, that are gonna cost Billions. Makes me think this has the possibility of being pretty serious. lew, Al B and DuckSoup 3 Quote
Gerald Posted March 13, 2020 Report Posted March 13, 2020 W.H.O. states about 80 percent will have mild symptoms. The other 20 will need hospitalization. Gunny 1 Quote
PostalTom Posted March 13, 2020 Report Posted March 13, 2020 Got a question, maybe somebody has read something on this. They say there is no "herd immunity" on this coronavirus because this is a brand new strain that nobody has had before. So, when this crisis passes, and next year comes around, will the people who survived this epidemic be immune, or at least have some immunity built up? Gunny 1 Quote

This whole thing is way to new and with flue just because you had it does not preclude you having a flu again, even in the same season. However odds will be extremely low for the ones we know about. HandyDan Posted March 13, 2020 Report Posted March 13, 2020 Vaccines have been created but testing is holding it up. Flu vaccines have been around for dozens of years. I think it is safe to say this vaccine will be fine also and should be administered now. Everyone is in a panic and the fear will only get worse. Gunny 1 Quote
