March 9, 20206 yr Popular Post Cleaned up one of the Egg Beater drills...was getting spots of rust....Basement shop, go figure So, this is what was cleaned up.. Made in USA... No markings on the chuck....(seems to be a Stanley one)...but..... Never seen a Stanly top handle like this. Not sure who made this one. You rotate that little tab around to the left, a hole appears, and all the bits inside will slide right out. Just so happens I have 2 other drills like this style (but not the bit holder)...A Stanley (blue) Handyman...and a Stanley Defiance #1221... Blue Handyman still has traces of where the label was. Crank handle is cast into the drive gear...The Defiance behind it has the right chuck, and crank handle....knob on the crank is different. Drive gear is also..different... It is a thicker rim, with 3 rings. It also has 2 pinion gears, not 1. Hole in the body is for a drop of oil. Top handles look close.. But not quite right. Mystery Drill also has a side handle....something the other 2 never had.... The 3 rings. Otherwise, it would look like a Millers Falls No. 5. Crank handle was made the same as the Mystery drills...but the wooden knob is not a match. Colour of the red paint seems to be like a Stanley Victor model..... But..that bit storage handle is messing things up. Will keeping looking....Stanley info on Egg Beater drills is hard to find....

Hmm - one hand on the top handle, one hand on the side handle, and... what do we use to crank it with? I am going to agree with Gunny on this, obviously designed for three armed aliens. They just left it here to mess with our (your) minds Judging by the time you made your original post it must have you up all night thinking about it too! Edited March 9, 20206 yr by Cal
March 9, 20206 yr Author Not a "Morning Person"...... That side handle had the benefit of allowing an operator to pull a stuck drill back out of a hole....between the crank handle and the side handle....both then act as a "T" handle....too much pulling on the top handle tends to loosen that handle. Safer on the fingers, than grabbing the drive gear..... Bad when I can remember a yard sale where I bought a tool....and how much was paid. Happened to find a sale on their last day....they had a hay wagon set up...all items on that wooden wagon deck were 1/2 price! Amongst the various bits of "Junk" was a $10 Egg Beater drill.....1/2price made it ..$5. Even had a handful of broken bits inside the handle....rattling around.
