My son is turning his first mug. I don't know the answer to his question. He wants to know if there is a type of sealer that would allow him to drink beverages from his mug. specifically, coffee, water and alcohol drinks. thanks in advance for your time. If it is wood dependant will have to give you that bit later, but it is most likely  one of following, oak, ash, maple or sweet gum.

Film finishes are food safe once dried. I wonder if a casting resin would make a really long lasting finish. Not sure how you could apply it, however.

To keep the wood from being affected some epoxy like bartop finish would be required. Used to go to Renaissance Festival and there was a booth with mugs done this way. Alumalite might do the job but it is not intended for use as a finish. All pain type or oil finished are at most water resistant and the mug will have to be waterproof.

can you guys give us a product name?

Saw a interesting video on this, it is in Russian so maybe difficult for most to understand.

Found this and  thought it might help.

You mentioned oak.   White oak was often used for buckets and barrels and held liquids for long periods of time.   No finish required.
