A friend gave us about 30 larger candles and 12 of these candles in a glass but they sit low.  So off to the shop I went and glued and cut up this block for a few nights.  Added small piece of Corian to the top, it doesn't care if hot wax melts on it and it looks fancy so I went for it.  The block started out as 3 1/2 inches square, as I turned it down I kept looking at it and decided it was just out of proportion and cut more down.  The base is 5 inches and the top is 4 inches.  Probably should have just done 2 1/2 inch square block.  But hey, it was scrap we had extra.  

 

Used some scrap Poplar, Walnut, and Mahogany.

That looks great Gunny - I don't think a simple 2 1/2" square top would have done justice to this piece.

So, Corian is colored all the way through, unlike some of the other man-made stuff that only has a color layer on top of a bed of resin?

Yes, or at least all the pieces I have seem to.

Very nice.  Great looking glue up.  Bet it took some time.

Spent about 15 minutes each night cutting it, then glue. Took 5 days before I had the blank all ready for the lathe.  Worked on other stuff in meantime.  The project lists grows much quicker than the completed list.

 

Wow. Looks great. I love Using the corian.  Dry nice turning.
