February 19, 20206 yr I was at the junkyard again and I found a newish pipe threading machine. I have no idea what was wrong with it but I striped it for parts. Wondering what to do with the new found parts I came up with this idea. Working with long parts in my lathe things can get flopping around. I made an adapter and put this on the back end of my spindle. It hold the long rods and keeps them from flopping around. I tried it out... Works great.
February 19, 20206 yr Wow! What kind of junk yards do you frequent? Do they have any daylight hours, or only after midnight?
February 19, 20206 yr Author Popular Post You would not believe the stuff that comes into junkyards. It's not an easy job finding the good stuff. Everything gets dumped into BIG piles. Nothing gets saved. It's all junk to the owner. You got to be there when the stuff gets dumped and before it gets crushed or reloaded. It's always a muddy dirty mess. Sometimes I joke with the owner when he ask me what did you find today. I say nothing but the real estate on my shoes. I stop in a few times each week. I'm also not the only person looking for stuff. This is a few pictures of some of the better things I found within the last year. Pictures posted is just a very small part of what I find...
February 19, 20206 yr My Godfather's friend who is 94 finds this stuff at the curb , junkyard, or wherever. Drops by every couple weeks. Like you said sometimes good stuff but mostly nothing. Keeps him busy though.
February 19, 20206 yr Found in a couple "Curb Shopping" expeditions last year. I've got to take photos of the "882 Retirement Lamp" + attachment DP that my neighbor found for me.

Hey I had one of those Larry, gave it to my dad, he don't use it, and he's trying to give it back to me When I used it, I loved it, it was completely quiet, like a sewing machine, it looks much better than the pic, it's fully restored and beautiful.
February 20, 20206 yr I had a Delta someone gave me, then my Dad gave me the Hegner and I horse traded the Delta for some other tools from a Marine buddy. So I have yet to invest any money in one. I do use it, I like the Hegner better than the Delta. The bellows died, have yet to break down and order one.
February 20, 20206 yr Keith, some really nice finds. Good on you. Larry, all those belts. Does it not concern you about all those belts.

If you had seen some of the machines from pre WWII still in use in the shop when we were still making the AMC 4.0 Liter six cylinder engine you wouldn't think anything about a few belts. You also have to remember that when you're using old machines that are set up in combination you rarely run more than one machine at a time. In the combination below you'll commonly only be using a single belt to run the machine you want to use. It's a pretty simple matter to slip a belt on/off of the pullies. This combination (when I get a stand built can't afford the Ebay! prices for the metal leg sets) will only take up roughly 1 1/2' x 6' and consist of an 11" DP, 24" SS, and 10" BS. I'll also be doing another combination that will require the use of a few more pullies, line-shafts(3), and belts for running another 11" DP, 11" lathe, 8" TS, and possibly another machine or 3. The extra pullies, line-shafts, belts etc. (If I did the math right) will allow me to run the lathe down to 37.5 RPM. I haven't calculated what DP speeds I can achieve. That combination will be similar to the following, with the exception of the DP being driven from the line-shaft. (Delta made a mule pulley drive for the HomeCraft DP) ...I needs to find one more Delta line-shaft hanger, and another Delta 5800 8" pulley. Pullies, Line-Shafts, and Belts...Oh My!!! ( ...might have to change my signature line. )

February 21, 20206 yr Author Don't feel bad... That's the second dapping block I found. I did not know what it was when I found the first one. I left it in the trash... I cried after I found out what it was... Two more items I found this week at the yard. I added the paint.

Cal, that was the 1934 price for the No.551 bench with the wood. The leg sets themselves are normally going for $225.00-325.00 plus $75.00-110.00 for shipping a pair.
