February 15, 20206 yr Talking on another site about nail guage size for trimming a house. An 18 guage for trimming a house? Are they serious...?
February 15, 20206 yr If they want to keep stopping to pull the bent ones it would probably work. I have a 15ga finish nail gun. Google finish nail gun and the brad nail guns come up as a choice.
February 16, 20206 yr I've worked with clear spruce (rough-sawn one side) for house trim before, the stuff nails up really nice, and I could see an 18 gauge going through it no problem, would I use 18g? Heck no, even if it didn't do a u-turn in the wood, it's still too small for holding power and longevity. Just a little while ago, I was surveying a subdivision and saw the finish carpenters putting up window trim, these guys are experienced commercial workers, they were using a hammer, not a nail gun, and later on after all had went home, I walked over to see some of the work and found 8d galv's on the ground, they were using hammer and 8d galvs, now that's class!

I've used every gun I've got from 3 1/2 d head nails to 1 1/2 inch pinheads and liquid nails. I always err on the side of bigger and deeper but there have been trims that required smaller yet more nails. Also remember there's a glue on some of those nails that actually holds on like son of a gun.
