January 2, 20206 yr Doesn't one of our resident scrollers recommend the packing tape first, then glue the pattern to that? Tape first, then pattern, that sounds like a better way... Edited January 2, 20206 yr by Cal
January 2, 20206 yr Lew if you are saying that good tip you got from a person suggesting they glue the pattern straight to the wood then that person don't know squat....... The reason for the clear packing tape is so the person don't have to take the time to remove the glue off of the wood... This takes as long to remove the sticky off the wood as it takes to scroll saw the wood......put the tape down FIRST on to clean wood then when through sawing, pull the tape off and if you used Scotch brand tape there will be nothing to clean up.......Duck brand clear tape leaves lots of sticky all over the wood and there fore you still have to use some kind of solvent to remove it...lacquer thinner removes it the faster than regular paint remover... Also if you are stack cutting several pieces of thin wood put some wax paper between the pieces of wood and it will also lub the blade. Besides a new blade does not burn the wood.... it is a worn out blade that is the wood burner. A blade in good shape will smooth the wood much better than sand paper will do. All my scroll sawing I do each day I don't have to sand the edges to make smooth. I only have to remove the fuzzies on the bottom side of the wood....and yes they do say the blades with some of the bottom teeth stick up will take of the fuzzies but they are wrong...
January 2, 20206 yr Its tape first then spray glue on to the tape then the pattern... And if you are stack sawing 1/8" or 1/4" or 3/8" BB then slide some wax paper between the wood and you blades will last longer ..

Thanks patch
