December 14, 20196 yr Popular Post I found a picture of a thing going two different directions so I starting this carving project this morning and both pieces have been scroll sawed so next will be the carving. No holes on these so far but you can never tell.. Close to that other thing I just finished earlier this week. This maple is a little over 1" thick. Each piece is already scroll sawed in to 8 different pieces so far. And yes they both got their backer boards... I probably won't start carving till after Christmas for wife done told me it ain't gonna be like last year so I better get to town and find her something for anniversary and Christmas which is three days apart.. I guess I over looked those two days last year and she was not in a good mood almost a long time.. I think the holes will look different this time... Rapid Resizer was responsible for the two pieces going in two different directions. But if these pieces were 1/4 to 1/2" thick I could just stack cut these two pieces then when finished sawing flip one over and I would have what you see here only faster producing them !!!!
December 14, 20196 yr Popular Post Your projects fascinate me. I always enjoy the process and final results. And, I greatly admire that you can do this. I couldn't begin to do this. It's a large part of why I love this forum, the diversity of skills, knowledge and talent.

December 14, 20196 yr Author Popular Post You never know your skills until you have tried everything. It never entered my mind I could do what I am doing... I would think is a person is an artist then he or she should be able to do anything pertaining to said......wrong for I bought a book one time on how to paint portraits. I thought I just as well start at the top of the ladder and work down to landscapes....boy did I ever waste me money. But at least I kept looking. This was about 60 years ago and am still looking...
December 15, 20196 yr Author Popular Post Well since I'm new to this carving thing I sat and studied these new pieces for a couple of hours after I cut them out with the scroll saw and all of a sudden I was grinding away on this one....I had decided not to mess with them till after Christmas but hey, I could hear the tools start humming and coughing and I just had to pick them up and pet em. Still a long ways to go and I have encountered many different things to learn so I was just thinking why don't some of you all decide this style of carving ain't that hard after all and join me in learning this stuff...
December 15, 20196 yr Patch, I am so happy that you made those tools feel comfortable and wanted. Wow, you make quick progress.
December 15, 20196 yr Author I have added a bit more wood removing since yesterday and its finally starting to look better.. I am starting to realize some patterns will look better than others no matter how long a person grinds on them.. So lay this back out of the way for I am fixin to start something I don't know about. If someone says that can't be done then I want to see for myself.
December 15, 20196 yr Author Danl what mat. The wood being carved is 1" maple and the backer board is 1/4" BB. Your question don't fit nothing .
December 16, 20196 yr Jesse, you did a good job of answering the question I did not ask. Sorry for the lousy doing a poor job of asking. Happy carving. Danl
December 16, 20196 yr Author Danl there had to be a reason you asked it, so out with with...….my first thought, has he been up on that ladder again!
