Yesterday in the shop I was waiting for varnish to dry and decided to make a small adjustment to the DC connection on the drum. To do what I wanted I needed to cut 2-5"long 6" diameter  pieces of PVC from a longer piece. I decided to use the bandsaw and quickly cut the parts. I've done this a 100 times with nary a problem. The first piece came off just as planned, slick as snot. The second piece was about 1/3 of the way through the cut, then BAM! Within a second I was looking at my empty hands, and the piece of PVC was laying in probably 8-10 pieces all over the shop floor. One of my fingers was bleeding, as the PVC went in various directions a piece of it hit my finger quite hard and broke the skin. In looking this over and thinking about I'm not sure what happened, but can guess one of the teeth got caught on the PVC and yanked it out of my hand and into the table at the same time. Anyway, moral to the story, as always be careful!

Scary when stuff like that happens.  Glad to hear it wasn't worse.

I never gave much of a thought about the dangers of the bandsaw (compared to some of the other woodworking machines) until recently. Glad your injuries weren't any worse.

Glad you’re okay. Maybe it’s the picture, but it looks like pretty thin pvc.

Been there, done that. Totally unexpected. I was luckier than you, no blood shed, just bit of pain from being hit with a piece of PVC. Glad you're OK.

Lesson Never cut round on bandsaw without jig. Could have been worse with wood.1483432045_BSroundstockjigback.jpg.8a62ce780f29a45e9551a6ecd2429e13.jpg

It is, Artie. I use thinwall on all my DC ductwork.
