With all the old post coming on I run across this shop in the wilderness I assembled besides our camper close to South Fork, Colo. and thought is would fit with the reruns...

This picture was at an RV park.  Notice I had all the conveniences of my shop at home plus the filtration system which at home I am most of the time too lazy to click the switch on. Don't forget to notice the wall to wall real fake grass... The saw was bolted to the piece of plywood but just sat on the Borden milk box. And my swivel seat there in the background was top dollar and ever so comfortable...When you are on vacation everything is different than normal...Three months sitting there sawing every other day. The other days we were driving every road and highways Colo. had to offer and some trails we ended up going down was something else..

Those were days. That vacation I cut out the four scroll saw jewelry boxes I proudly designed which was the first jewelry boxes of that type I had ever attempted to put together.1785585751_workareaforthejewelryboxesanddontforgettonoticethefiltersystem..jpg.2e90c9953aa78f3ed0c602af0948a3c4.jpg

That Dewalt will operate no matter where it is sitting.  And this is what I cut out while spending the summer   215037670_boxesforjewels.jpg.072a2d48a298a92202c271bad924ac95.jpg

Those boxes are absolutely beautiful.  How deep are they?  Did you cut each piece and then laminate them?  Where can we get plans?  Thank you.  And, again, those are really classy boxes.

Patch I remember when you posted this and I have been using the box fan with filter since then. It does a great job at picking up those fine particles on the top side of the saw. Recently found a bunch of new filters at the Restore for a buck each. Thanks for the idea.

I can relive the past with you.  I was there when you first posted these at @WOOD.

Nice looking jewelry boxes!!

Great Job!!!

Steve the plans I drew up using a set of French Curves... They can be bought at hobby lobby and lots of other places. I bought a book of graph paper from  an office supply and it measures 2133966525_justfinishedcuttingthedrawercavitys.jpg.968fdb06710c03590495beca35f64d22.jpg

20 x 30".  Lot of 3/4" pieces glued up to form the box. I used up to 10 pieces. Notice the dowels sticking in the drawer parts. All the pieces had 4 dowels on each side. This is how I could end up with not much gap between the drawers and the box...and much less sanding also.. 1946337475_indivudalpiecesforjewelrybox.jpg.4895bb6857622d977de5c8bcf6e0c2a4.jpg

You save the parts you cut out for the drawers and glue them up.2082603380_muchlaborinvolved.jpg.8e7b46a69867b754bc03ef88b447600b.jpg

The only time I used a bandsaw was after I glued up the drawer and before I glued each front and back on I cut out the cavity for each drawer.

The only clamps I used were as shown... V18sp Vise Grips. Only brand that would not spring open clamping about 9 inches wide.

With this many pieces with this much glue I only glued one piece at a time and if I didn't use at least 9 clamps each time by the time I got all the pieces glued there could have been bulges where nothing would have stayed flat.  And I think this is the reason why I have never seen jewelry boxes of this type this big because no one ever would go to this much trouble.

I noticed you have a box in place of your name. It looks very good and I wonder have you ever thought of making them deeper.440101221_haventstartedsandingtheoutsideyet.jpg.6da0b2f2ff4ed68ee29ef9102b2f9381.jpg

Bob we use expensive filters in the house and change them out real often and I save then for my shop fans....and I use one in front of the window air conditioner…..I learned a good lesson of not using one the first year of the window air conditioner and it took all day to clean those coils of dust which gets packed in there like concrete.  I also take the box fans and attached filter outside and give them a good blo job, huh!
