Rockler Corner dowel kit

Featured Replies

Have anyone seen or had any experiences with the corner dowel kit shown in the AD?

It looks good, but does not say if it requires a special drill or if you must drill from both sides to prevent splits or chips when the drill exits.

Another question:  Can it be used on picture frames?

Have to look into the how it works part.  Looks interesting and certainly has a unique look when done.

The instructions provided by Rockler show the use of a backer against the outer face to prevent blowout. The catalos also shows various diameter drills - 6" long, which I'm assuming is because of the combined thickness of the joint - nothing is said about "special" drills so probably any quality brad point drill that has the required length would work.

Would the sides need to be glued together first and then drilled?  Doesn't look like mush clamping area.

Rockler Corner Dowel Jig

Interesting idea, adds a bit of something different to the look of those corners. Watched the video, could see the backing piece used to prevent blowout. Presumably it's sacrificial and something you provide yourself, and doesn't impact on how you calculate the settings.....

Thanks for the post.  Helpful in seeing how they approach using the jig.

Now the moron that decided they needed that insane music, beat that guy with a stick!  :throbbinghead:

Dan I would think yes the sides should be glued up first.

I have decided not to look into this. My shop is so small that I would have to toss something out, to put in something new. I doubt I'd use it much anyway.

Is that wisdom creeping in..............or ..........am I just getting old:mellow:

Either way, Ron. You made the right choice.
