June 22, 20197 yr Popular Post I have some colored ply left (Christmas gift) and I wanted to try to turn an ornament with isolated stripes. Things didn't go so well. What you see had tare outs, glue jobs, fall aparts, glue jobs and I even reversed pieces around to make use of parts that didn't fall apart. I'm not fond of turning ply with the grain, there are flaws that can cause a bunch of problems. I've learned a few ways to cover flaws, so all came out well.
June 23, 20197 yr You can produce similar effect but gluing different species of wood together and spinning that done. 1/8 inch strips glued up would look good.
