May 31, 20197 yr comment_192044 I saw a sign "free firewood" After inspecting, I saw some that had possibilities. Maybe some interesting grain for turning. I brought 3 pieces home and proceeded to find out. Only I can't find my chainsaw. Its electric and will cut this stuff easily. I looked everywhere, no luck. I sat down and tried to remember if I lent it out or put it in another spot. Everything failed, I gave up for now. If I don't find it, my neighbor has a wood burner and he will will welcome the donation. Hey, maybe he has it Report
May 31, 20197 yr comment_192046 What is it? Than continuous ring shake is interesting but not for turning. Report
May 31, 20197 yr Author comment_192048 I have no idea what type of wood it is or was. I have my doubts about it being in turning condition............................now, if I find my saw......... Report
May 31, 20197 yr comment_192105 I see many holes from insects please make sure you quarenteen this then kill all the insects before they infest your existing stock pile. Report
May 31, 20197 yr Author comment_192113 I did see the shape and holes, etc. My thought was to cut into it, evaluate what may be salvaged and go from there. If I don't locate or borrow a chain saw, I'll return it to the "free wood" pile where it can be in someone's campside fire. Report
June 1, 20197 yr Author Popular Post comment_192167 I'm a step closer to finding out what I've got. I located my chain saw. I actually did give up on it and my memory. I asked someone and found out that my daughter borrowed it 6 months ago...didn't tell me.....still has it. Now I don't feel so bad, I thought I was on the onset of alzheimer's. I'll get it back and see what I have. Report
June 1, 20197 yr comment_192183 Have to absolutely agree with Gerry. I can just see in my head that wood would separate once a chisel was set to it. You would have shrapnel flying all over the work space. Report
June 1, 20197 yr Author comment_192224 I got my chain saw out and proceeded to cut the three most interesting pieces. As most everyone suspected, the wood is not stable enough that I would risk turning it. However the pieces I have will make some very interesting projects. My wife has some ideas, including a planter for air plants (the ones that live in air.....not soil) Report
