March 29, 20197 yr Popular Post I just realized that today, March 29, is Vietnam Veterans Day. Welcome home to all vets everywhere, and many thanks to all vets, alive and dead, and their families, for all that you have done! hat
March 29, 20197 yr Thanks for remembering. So glad that tody's returning men and women don't have to endure the same treatment we did.
March 30, 20197 yr For our Viet Nam Vets, Thank you, despite your crappy return your service was Honorable and you have served your country well.
March 30, 20197 yr Author Popular Post I never saw any of the abuse directed toward vets when I traveled in my Greens during the VN war, '68-'70. I traveled through airports in Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle-Tacoma, and Honolulu. I was very aware of protests against the war, hell, me and my infantry buddies protested the war. Its important to remember it was a stupid political war and the protest was directed against the government, not the military guys and gals, even though they were sometimes targeted because they were exposed. My Mom had a church friend whose son was killed in VN, and she went ballistic, openly cursing the President and Congress vehemently for a long time. She never recovered. All of my buddies resent that stupid war, but we just live with it. We all will defend our country when necessary but lets not send our military into a stupid war ever again. Lets honor our vets whenever possible. That's why I make posts of various special days, ceremonies, and celebrations, and thank them whenever I see them. The old guys from WWII and Korea love it. hat
April 3, 20197 yr Ditto that, Hat. I am so happy that you didn't have to endure the scorn we received as we returned. Even after getting out of the Navy and going to work for DOD, we received jeers and harassment as civilians. It eventually tapered off. BTW, DOD civil service rebuilt tanks, planes and ships. So, mostly made up of veterans.
