February 24, 20197 yr I was watching a video of a guy turning a bowl. After one side was completely finished, He turned the other side and used pressure applied to a pad to turn the rest. What is the pad made of?
February 24, 20197 yr Looks like it might be MDF or plywood with a sheet of foam board from the hobby store glued onto it. See link. https://www.michaels.com/12x18-foam-sheet-by-creatology/10597575.html?cm_mmc=KidsPLASearch-_-google-_-MICH_National_Kids_Shopping_Null_Null_All+Products_General_MIK-_-Kids&&cm_mmc=KidsPLASearch-_-google-_-MICH_National_Kids_Shopping_Null_Null_All+Products_General_MIK-_-Kids&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIw7bOxI_T4AIVBL7ACh2ibgLiEAQYBSABEgKQC_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
February 24, 20197 yr Agree with Dan, it's probably MDF with a self stick craft foam on the face. I get it locally at Walmart. Steve
February 24, 20197 yr Author Thanks, I have some that I use to apply to the bottom of turned vases. Now I'm going to have to turn something using it. I think slow and easy is the way to cut.
February 25, 20197 yr With the small hole in the center it looks like it could be a homemade vacuum chuck.
February 26, 20197 yr Looks to me like it could be a combination of both. A vacuum chuck on the head stock and a pressure pad on the tail stock.
