For those wanting to know as I did what this means:

Young's modulus measures the resistance of a material to elastic (recoverable) deformation under load. A stiff material has a high Young's modulus and changes its shape only slightly under elastic loads (e.g. diamond). A flexible material has a low Young's modulus and changes its shape considerably (e.g. rubbers).

Thank goodness for the latter.:DevilLaughing:

The metal used is not significant as it will be the last to fail. There is still a weak point past the ferule where the wood is thin , before it gets thicker.

Maybe but,  that's not how I see it.   YA see the robust ferrule  adds rigidity to the wood at the end preventing the initial failure of the lumber.

One can test it easily enough by building   identical  test samples one with copper and one with  hammered on steel.  Then see what weight is required to break each.

I'm betting on the steel ferrule.

What about the rubbers?

I sure like my Easy Wood Tools. Today I ordered a parting tool from EWT.

I Love mine! Make sure you properly seat the tip into the tool. I wasn't getting the tip seated completely and when I place the tool into my tool carousel the tip fell out. Really hard to find in all those shavings!

Yeah...  you want to make sure to use the Flex-Wrench that came with the tool every time you put the cutter in.  ;O)
