December 4, 20187 yr Popular Post LONG time ago...when I worked at a Rubber Hose factory....they tried to find cheaper EPDM rubber cheaper than DuPont was asking....they found a place down in Brazil...and bough a container load...shipped up here in wooden crates...Tongue & Groove 1 x3s....Managed to get a few crates home to the shop on North Main St., DeGraff, OH....among the many projects that were cobbled together.. Wood was a light brown in colour, would never take a stain, glued up in a heartbeat...but, when the varnish was applied, turned a nice red colour... Frostie is a store-bought snowman. Just a blast from the past...currently sitting in my living room...

December 5, 20187 yr Author Those Red & Green hose for your torch....that red airline you pumped up a tire with....those heater hoses under the hood of your car....I was one of the "Compounders" that made the material in those hoses...including the fuel lines. Place out in Kansas made the radiator hoses... Used to know every recipe for each type of rubber used....Never whacked anyone with a hose....beaned a few with little 1" cubes.... Other than a lot of wood "supplies"...biggest thing I got from there was a mild case of COPD.....
December 5, 20187 yr Popular Post For some time, the plating factory where I worked was getting nickel in one-ton boxes, about 2 1/2' x 2 1/2' x 3', made of 1" pine. We could get permission to take the empty boxes, and I lugged quite a few home in the back of my VW Rabbit. Not good furniture wood, but OK for shop fixtures, storage, etc. I'll have to see if I can get a pic or two. John
