Being from Texas in the warmer regions it was a shock when we got to Germany and the very next day they say we are going to the field for a three day weather in doc turn ration, what ever that meant. Our platoon had an APC for this trip into the woods and before boarding we were given two days worth of c-rations..sarg said you have the privilege of deciding which day you don't eat. Zero degrees outside is exactly the same inside this all metal track driven machine but touching cold metal is equal to 100 degrees below that. Eating cold anything with lard all over it is not pleasant and it might not have been lard but that was the best word coming from the 10 guys who had some terrible names while trying to eat this frozen stuff...

  Don't know if denting an unopened can of this food then placing the dented can on to an exhaust manifold until right before it exploded was invented right then and there but it kind of saved some from going hungry...The trick was knowing right before it exploded then grabbing it off the exhaust...The ones decided to get it just a tad hotter were the ones who didn't have anything to eat for their food spread out all over the inside of that taxi.

  We figured after that three days freezing if all the people who can order young people to go into war and die then if all those so called officials were put on the front lines FIRST then we would not have wars anymore......All nations included...  I'm sure those smart people could find a solution not requiring blood to be lost....but  that would cause the wheel chair companies to go busted, And the VA's could turn in to firefighting teams for the state of California..

Couldn't agree more! 

Three days of freezing? Cold food? We used to call that "winter camping", and thoroughly enjoyed it! WHAT WERE WE THINKING???

John I hope you are not comparing the army infantry with anything else on this earth. Especially being in civilian clothes and having a civilian mind set.
