First Attempt at a Hollow Form

Featured Replies

So this is my first ever attempt at a hollow form turning.  Simple...  yes  Clunky base (I'll probably turn it off) But...  I did it!  Proud of myself for trying this.  I've always been very intimidated by this for some reason.  So here it is...  Cherry...  3" tall, 2-3/4" wide.  The walls are less than 1/8" .....  mostly

Great job, Jim. The base looks fine where it is. Provides stability.

Leave the base. First one, Mount it on a pedestal, I think it looks great, but I am not a turrrrner,

Sweet Jim.  Looks great.

Looks good Jim, did you use a captured bar, or free hand?

Thanks Steve...  it was free hand.  Actually more fun and less stress than I thought it would be.  Turning without being able to see the actual cut takes a little getting used to!

Thank you all for your generous comments.  Ill be doing more of this for sure.  Thanks.

You Done Good!!!

Love it just the way it is. That needs to go into the lobby display case!

Ok now you are hooked . Once you start hollowing there is no turning back

Thank you sir!  "The only thing to fear is fear itself"  Proves to be right again.  I would someday love to be able to turn ornaments to Steve Krumanaker's standards...  a lofty goal I would say.
