Finishing a Beech gun stock.

Featured Replies

The light tan color of European Beech is not very attractive on a gun stock. I would like some of your ideas on how to finish Beech.

Thanks, Don

Good morn Don. Just curious, what gun is it? Also, is it a new stock you made for your gun?

I'd love to see images of the project if possible. I guess why I am asking this is, is it possible to use a darker wood at this point?

I'm the last person you would want to offer advice on finishing. Maybe some sort of dye to show the grain more predominantly.

It's not my gun but I wish it was. A more traditional finish would be a walnut color. My friend wants to finish it but he doesn't know what to do. Neither do I. I have not had very good results with beech and to me the natural color is plum ugly on a gun.
