September 6, 20187 yr So my neighbor comes over, tells me he had a new dishwasher installed, but in doing so, he had to rip out part of the kitchen countertop trim. the counters are 6x6 (or 4x4, doesn't matter) tiles set onto 3/4" plywood. Not the way I would have done that, but that's what we have. so about 1" thick all together. The edges are trimmed out with 1x2 pine, with the 1-1/2" dimension covering the tiles, the plywood, and extending down below the plywood about 1/2". well.....the new DW was a bit taller than the old one, so the edging prevented its installation. neighbor tells the installers, "hold on, this is going in today." gets a saw, whacks off about 3 feet of trim (from the left edge of the DW to the mitered corner of the countertop trim). "could you make a replacement piece?" no sweat. so i buy a 2x6x10' piece of pretty clear lumber, rip off a strip, round over the corners, make a little cut out for the DW clearance, and then it's time to color match a dirty, greasy, 20 year old piece of pine trim. uh oh. i delve into my stain supplies, try different ones on scraps, no exact matches, but after some fiddling, get it pretty close. need to do a final length measurement, double check the cutout for DW clearance, get the OK on stain color, apply some poly, and put it in in a few days. can you tell which is the new piece?
September 7, 20187 yr You're leaving yourself wide open Dab. I've seen your work so I think it is. . . I'd have to say he will be thrilled with the outcome. Can't be too picky if he just hacked a piece off and I'm sure you will fix him up looking better than it was.
September 7, 20187 yr I think your neighbor must work for one of the contractors in our area...that's the way they do things.
