Fred W. Hargis Jr Posted September 6, 2018 Report Posted September 6, 2018 I don't know if anyone is interested in this, but my not-so-favorite TV woodworker has been crowing about these clamps for the last couple of years. So while looking for EZ outs in Lowes this morning, I saw these clamps on clearance for $7.50, versus the regular price of $30. They are welding clamps, so the pads are slightly smaller than the woodworking ones, and the handles aren't padded....I don't see either stopping anyone from using these on wood. Anyway, if you want some, this may be as cheap as they get. They open to 5", and have a throat of 6"; and yes, they are made in China. Anyway, just thought I'd share. Smallpatch Posted September 6, 2018 Report Posted September 6, 2018 Thanks Fred I will be in the big town tomorrow for the ole doctor thingy and will stop at Lowes to look at their tankless water heaters and those clamps.. The pads look the size of the Vise Grips I'm fond of..The pads looks the same on both. I grind off the rivet and use a quick change pin so all the pads I use for different applications should work with these too. I have never seen those clamps before your picture.. I don't put a lot of stock in the tv guys knowledge of wood working for I figure their pocket book is filled by the advertised items. Cal 1 Quote
Gene Howe Posted September 6, 2018 Report Posted September 6, 2018 Cheaper than my HF ones. HARO50 and Cal 1 1 Quote
Smallpatch Posted September 8, 2018 Report Posted September 8, 2018 Well I went to Lowes today and sure nuff nothing on sale that looked like the pictures . They do carry Kreg which looks like but with blue plastic trim but not automaxx of any kind... Then I got home and looked up what people though about automaxx. So after reading true? and false? stories it might be good I didn't come home with any of those clamps. I had to work over a 22" Vise Grip clamp cause it would not lock at its maximum spread and this is where I use 10 of the 22" models for my Jewelry boxes... Gene my wife had her lower back operated on about 2 months ago. She could not turn over in bed without screaming and her right leg had pains from one end to the other and the doc told her he would stop the right leg pains but the other pains are, author--right--us caused and would still be giving her some discomfort... and the operation done exactly as the doc told her. Then she went to the doc who stuck needles all over the place for neck pains but the other doc told her the needles would not help,,, which they didn't....... I think she did about 10 sessions with the needle doc....no help.. The MRI's showed the doc exactly where to cut and thats what he did.. I'm just glad some know how to help. p_toad and Cal 1 1 Quote
Grandpadave52 Posted September 8, 2018 Report Posted September 8, 2018 Must have been a Wapakoneta store thing Fred...Lafayette, IN store did not have any in stock...shows they are still available via on-line order though at $29.98 Quote
HandyDan Posted September 8, 2018 Report Posted September 8, 2018 I was at the Lowes store near me and have a friend who works there. They are going over their inventory and purging non moving items this week. There was plenty on sale but not the clamps. They must sell here because there were only two hanging there. I did get a deal on a flashlight. 320 lumens flashlight $4.99 regular price $22.98. Quote
Fred W. Hargis Jr Posted September 8, 2018 Author Report Posted September 8, 2018 I know the Lowes clearance sale items are different across stores. Sometimes you can do the on line search and find the local store's price, but my store still showed them at regular price. I just thought I'd mention it in case any of you were in the store for other stuff. I did buy some and they seem to work well, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't pay regular price for them...way too expensive. Cal and Grandpadave52 2 Quote
Gene Howe Posted September 8, 2018 Report Posted September 8, 2018 I have a few different sizes of the Vice Grip brand and a few from HF. All of larger capacity than the Auto Max ones. At Lowe's non sale price, I'll stick with the ones I have. Cal 1 Quote
BillyJack Posted November 11, 2019 Report Posted November 11, 2019 (edited) If you can get the automaxx clamps with the 6" depth those are the bomb.... This is about the time AMAZON runs these clamps on sale. Hopefully this happens this year and only last for a week... Edited November 11, 2019 by BillyJack Gunny, John Morris and p_toad 2 1 Quote
