Wood Casement Window Bottom Rail Wood Rot

Recommended Posts

Exterior portion of bottom rail of 30 year old (Malta) all-wood casement window has some serious rot.  It is the crank out style.  The window is 18" wide X 38" tall.  I would like to be able to buy a replacement sash but not sure if the dimensions I need exist and if the cost would be reasonable.  The other option is to remove the window and rebuild the bottom rail.

Anybody know where to buy the sash?  Any suggestions or advice on doing the rebuild?

rebuild...

OK. That would have been my first choice.  It's actually my neighbor's window and I do all his home maintenance and handyman projects.  I told him the window might be out for a couple of days but I would board up the opening.  He was fine with that so here goes.  This means I will have to postpone my cooking (the recipes that you have been posting) and our bs session.

Project has been on hold.....decided to wait until Spring.  Now Spring is right around the corner so time to start prepping for the rebuild.  One question I didn't ask was what wood is recommended for the sash?  The house is located in Massachusetts.
