Corn hole anyone?

My wife is having her family over to our home this upcoming Labor day weekend.  As you can guess most of our guess will be from Iowa.  So, I thought it would be appropriate to build corn hole boards.  I constructed the boards using white pine and ¼” MDF The 6” hole was made using a shop made trim router guide.  Painted Iowa State Cyclone colors.   I purchased the corn bags (not shown).  Danl

Looking good Dan.  Us Ohioans claim to be the originators of the game.  Among others of course.

I like them, Dan. You have them fixed up real fancy.

I think us Cincinnatians claim title, too, especially the west-siders.  (crossing Vine street or I-75 generally requires a passport).

"The west side of Cincinnati, Ohio, specifically Harrison, Ohio has been one of the main areas of modern resurgence and renewed popularity of the game. It is popular at tailgate events throughout the Midwest and has recently become a nationwide favorite, with national championships covered on ESPN." - Wikipedia

Bit of trivia:  Harrison, Ohio is home to Campbell-Hausfeld, Midwest Dowel, and McFeely's Hardware.

Here we call them Holy Boards and use 4" dia. steel flat washers for the projectiles. they are only raised up on the far end 1 1/2". You can knock the opponents washer into the hole or off the board, kind of like shuffle board.

Forgot to compliment you on the boards you made. They look really nice, good job.

Great job on the boards Dan. Looks like a fun weekend is in the works weather permitting.

Did you purchase the bags locally or order from a source on-line?

They are forecasting nice weather this weekend for my area, so it should be a fun time.  The bags were purchased on line from Sam's Cornhole Bags LLC.  They are from Harrisonburg, VA.  So, it is not local for me (no the other side of the big muddy).  Danl

My dad (a long time horseshoe enthusiast) used to have a set of these he took to picnics and camping -- "Washerboard" is what he called it.

Many, many years ago, during the summer months, our local Park & Recreation services offer summer programs for kids at the various elementary schools. At each location we had a couple of dedicated "courts" for washers...consisted of two of the old style (key to open) one pound coffee cans buried into the ground with the top rim flush to the surrounding dirt. Grass was cleaned away from around the cans.

A couple of holes pierced into the can bottom with a nail so water would drain; don't recall the distance between cans; scoring was pretty similar to horseshoes; 4" washers were usually donated by the local farm implement dealers. We didn't have video games.:P

As I got older, moved from washers to pitching pennies & nickels then dimes & quarters against walls, steps, cracks or ??? Valuable lessons in the misfortunes of gambling.

Us kids did something similar, Dave. Except, we used those metal Birds Eye frozen juice concentrate cans.  Smaller washers, of course.

We pinched not pitched, our pennies.:)

Good looking boards.

We have been making them as fast as possible and turning them out.
