Yesterday I submitted an entry in which I said I used to be an instrument tech at a powerplant.

Today I received an email from a utility in FL offering me a job. The only place they could have gotten that info would have been from web electronic monitering. I am 75 and have been retired 20 years. Watch what you enter on the web.

You took the job, didn’t you? :P

Well, somebody valued your expertise and experience. Now, they've gotta value 75 years of accumulated wisdom, as well.;)

Didja tell them your also an expert wood worker?

I'm a retired speech therapist and get spam job offers often. Don't know how they get my info. I'm 78. Coming out of retirement isn't at all alluring. :cowboy:

where did you do that???

i used to do mechanical engineering.  so far, very few calls and offers.

Six years into retirement, the world isn't exactly beating a path to my door, but I have been doing forensic work (mech engineering / HVAC) for someone I knew tangentially.  It's been nice.  LinkedIn tells me that there are still a lot of people searching for technical skills.  Stock market still strong, so (conventional wisdom) the economy is also probably strong for another 6 months.  Rather than consider moving to FL, make a counteroffer to help from your office at home (the office with the beer cooler!).  You may doubt the "office at home" ploy, but as the search for talent becomes more intense, more employers are taking what they can get.  Take advantage.  I know of a youngster (gee, is she 40 yet?!) who works from home and makes dang near what I was at my peak.  If there's a bumper crop out there: harvest.

i get emails from search firms all the time.  i normally ignore all of them.  but once in a while, like today, i click on them and see what is out there.

since i live in Santa Fe, NM, many are geared towards jobs at Los Alamos National Lab, which is about a 1 hour drive from me.  my neighbor works up there.

so i click on one today, and start reading the job description.  part way thru, i come across this gem:

"The perspective individual may be asked to perform as a Project Field Engineer on a moderate sized project as well. "

or perhaps they meant "prospective".

if you can't proof your own job description, you have problems i cannot solve.

good grief.

edit:  and of course, they don't list the salary range for the job.  pass.

Offer to be a consultant and have them pay up front.

It gets hot in NM: maybe they expect you to sweat?

In times of labor shortage, smart orgs take what they can find, and mold the job around the available talent.  I hired lots of less-than-perfect fits on the basis of "take what you can get".  Won't know until you poke the bear.

i retired at 45.  have more money now at 55 than i did then.  all my bills are paid, and my time is mine to do as i see fit.  why would i go back to the rat race?  more cheese?  i have enough cheese.

my wish list for things is pretty short:  a few nice guns, a full size lathe, and a tank/trailer combo for hauling water.  nothing i need, just things i'd like eventually.
