Ron Altier Posted August 11, 2018 Report Posted August 11, 2018 About 10/12 years ago, I got a roll of what was called "Turners tape" Double sided tape with a blue plastic separator. It worked really good. I ran out and got some carpet tape with fiberglass fibers in it. Worked ok, but I didn't fully trust it and it was a pain to peel off the backing. I did a search for turners tape and found it, of course, but wonder if it is worth the price. Nearly triple the price of "non turners tape" What do you use and do you like it? Quote
HandyDan Posted August 11, 2018 Report Posted August 11, 2018 I spring for the turners tape. The carpet tape is a stronger hold but a pain to use at times as you described. Quote
Steve Krumanaker Posted August 11, 2018 Report Posted August 11, 2018 (edited) I use turners tape. I also like a hot glue gun and use that most of the time. Either one is for smaller items only IMO. Steve Edited August 11, 2018 by Steve Krumanaker more information Quote
Gerald Posted August 11, 2018 Report Posted August 11, 2018 For tape I use carpet tape and just use less. To get it off use heat gun or Goo b Gone. The best to use for faceplate is CA. Use the thick and make a fine bead . I put the glue on either faceplate or blank and spray accelerator on the other. Once contact made you can also spray a little accelerator. When complete use a chisel in the joint and one sharp rap does the job.Oh and you might want to have a plastic bucket ot a pad to catch the item. Quote
lew Posted August 11, 2018 Report Posted August 11, 2018 I use carpet tape, mostly. If I want a really secure holding,I'll use a paper joint. Quote

Gene Howe Posted August 11, 2018 Report Posted August 11, 2018 (edited) I don't turn but, I've tried acetone and lacquer thinner with less than stellar results. It's possible my glue sticks are of a variety that doesn't respond. But, either one WILL definitely loosen that fiberglass reinforced tape. As an aside, that tape responds well to pressure. If the separate pieces an be clamped for a millisecond, it's holding power increases tremendously. The forces encountered with a turning might still be too much for it, though. It's great for removing tape residue. Steve Edited August 11, 2018 by Steve Krumanaker Quote
PostalTom Posted August 12, 2018 Report Posted August 12, 2018 Thanks for confirming that Steve. Reading your post, I realized my friend had also mentioned naptha, I had just forgotten that. I have lost the insert to my band saw, so that will be a good project to try the naptha, or if necessary, acetone, to release my turning from the glue block. Thanks again. Steve Krumanaker 1 Quote
hawkeye10 Posted September 30, 2018 Report Posted September 30, 2018 Fast-Cap makes a double-sided tape that when it comes to holding it's the cat's meow. I don't use it much because it's so hard to get off. https://www.fastcap.com/product/speedtape Quote
