August 5, 20187 yr I have some blades that need sharpening. I haven't been able to find any recommended local walk-in sharpening services so I figure I will have to use a mail-in service. I've seen some services listed on the internet but would feel more comfortable with some personal recommendations. Thank You.
August 5, 20187 yr I have 2 I highly recommend. The first is Bull Sharpening in Oak Park Il. They have been my primary sharpener for many years, and they are a full service shop. They do it all...forstner bits, router bits, planer knives, and of course saw blades. The second would be Dynamic Saw in Buffalo NY. Same thing, full service shop and high quality work. A third one I haven't used but gets nothing but rave reviews is Scott Whiting, somewhere in Arizona. If Gene catches the thread he has the info on Scott, he is also a full service shop.

August 5, 20187 yr I've used Scott Sharpening in Glendale, AZ for many years. Excellent service. Uses computerized equipment. Very precise. http://scottssharpening.com

August 5, 20187 yr Freud's recommended, Burns tool in MA/RI, is certainly cheap enough. Even so, it's probably cheaper to just buy new blades to replace those less expensive ones. Don't know how far from them you are, but they'd likely be quicker than sending them to AZ. Edited August 5, 20187 yr by Gene Howe

Burns isn't too far from me. The headquarters is in MA and the sharpening is done in RI. I'll call and ask which location to use for hand delivery. I don't have any idea how much the blades weigh or the cost to ship.

August 6, 20187 yr Fred and I are on the same page. My go to sharpener died and I had to find a new one. Bull does a great job. In fact, they just sharpened two 80 tooth blades and a set of jointer knives for me. About a week turnaround time.

As Gene said the Freud recommended sharpener in my area is Burns. Not too far away......I may just drive there. Although all my blades cost more than the sharpening cost I'm not sure which ones are worth sharpening. There is another local sharpener (within driving distance) that I called and asked if they evaluate each blade to see if it is sharpenable e.g. check for flat, etc. They said 'yes'. Do all sharpeners do an evaluation or just sharpen them anyway?
