I subscribe to Ron Brown's news letter. He often has some thought provoking comments. I thought this month's was especially appropriate.

"The reason we have hobbies is to relax from the rest of life’s pressures and difficulties. Our hobbies provide an outlet for creativity, sometimes exercise, often get us out of the house and provide a diversion from our other responsibilities.

Most of the retired folks I know tell me they are busier now than when they had an actual job. A neighbor recently asked me when I was going to retire. I said “I am retired.” She said “You work all the time!” I told her that “When you love what you are doing, it isn’t work!” I haven’t had a job in almost 20 years now because I am finally able to do what I love every day and the bills still get paid.

When I’m in the shop the hours seem to fly by and I would lose track of time all together if it weren’t for the radio playing in my ear. At the end of most days I’m pretty tired even though I don’t remember working that hard. When we are able to share our healthy hobbies with the rest of our family, these hobbies become even more special. A few words of caution here; don’t let your hobby consume you to the point you neglect your family, your job if you still have one and your other responsibilities.

Hobbies provide a common point of contact with other like-minded individuals and can provide bonds which last a lifetime. They can provide opportunities for social interaction, field trips and even possibly events in other cities and countries.

Whatever your hobby, mine usually involves something to do with woodworking, enjoy it, share it, pursue it, but never lose sight that it is just a hobby. Don’t take you hobby so seriously that it steals your joy.  And always remember that wherever you go, there you are.

It does. My fault. Sorry.

It does. My fault. Sorry.

Maybe it was written in Mary Hartman.  (Remember that show?)

I read the whole thing twice.

And you should be sorry.  Please strive to be perfect like the rest of us in the future or you will get a time out.  How are we supposed to get anything done if we have to read the same stuff twice.  There is only so much room in my head and now that is in there double and there is no delete button.

I tell everyone that retirement is when you go from a 8 hour

work day to a 16 hour day...
